The DHI technique, an abbreviation for Direct Hair Transplantation, is a method used under the FUE hair transplantation technique. Unlike traditional FUE, where grafts are harvested and then implanted into recipient sites created by making incisions, DHI involves direct implantation of grafts without the need for pre-made incisions.

Advantages of the DHI technique include reducing the time follicles spend outside the body, resulting in increased graft survival rates, less bleeding and fewer incisions needed during multiple graft implantations, the potential to achieve higher follicle density in areas of concern, and the possibility of performing the procedure without shaving the recipient area. However, it requires more expertise from the physician and specialized equipment compared to standard FUE procedures.

On the downside, DHI procedures typically take longer to perform, as only around 2500 grafts can be transplanted per day, limiting the number of grafts that can be implanted in one or two sessions.
